Interactive Gifs
More about the project...
This includes all the gifs that I have pieced together for the Vancouver Canucks. With this in mind, before my role, the Canucks had a small amount of gifs at hand. So, with these projects, I grew the gif count. Including gifs ranging from Giphy stickers to custom gifs made from video clips.
I made a lot of the gifs for the Canucks during the 2019-2020 NHL Season. As a result at the time, I am solely responsible for publishing the gifs to Giphy on the Vancouver Canucks Giphy account. Overall, this allows gifs to be found on Twitter and Instagram. So, that anyone could use them in their own posts. The design team is responsible for creating some of the cartoon gifs.

Personal goals for the project...
Taking on this project was a big opportunity. Importantly having the chance to clean up and evolve my skills with industry software and practices is huge. Therefore this requires me to learn how to use green screens in post-production. For example, this requires cutting out the subjects. In short, this is known as keying out backgrounds and putting in other backgrounds or exporting with an alpha channel (transparent). Also learning how to animate the cartoon stickers and full gifs.
Keying Backgrounds. Before the Canucks, I had a very small amount of knowledge with keying backgrounds. As a result, my route is starting the learning process with trial and error and YouTube videos. Additionally, learning strategies and techniques from senior editors is another route. The organization also gave me a high-level keying plugin “Red Giant” to add to my Adobe software. Allowing me to perform faster keys more quickly. With this in mind, I am able to learn a lot more about keying both with Red Giant and default Adobe software.
Exporting Gifs. I have a basic knowledge of exporting gifs. To clarify I learned the process in school and through past jobs, but I am always wanting to improve my quality and efficiency. So, to increase interactivity, the Canucks use lots of gifs both to share and have fans share. Overall I learned more advanced methods from the senior editors. Unfortunately, but fortunately for me, Giphy was untouched. With this in mind, learning it on my own is the only option. Through Giphy sources and YouTube, I am able to upload high-quality gifs in full and sticker display.
Giphy. I was able to learn all the tricks from the sources stated in the above paragraph. As a result, I went from no knowledge on Giphy to having professional knowledge. It should be noted my determination and continuous effort to improve my efficiency and the quality of the gifs is actively growing the total views (30.1 million views on Giphy as of March 28, 2020).
At the end of the day, my goals were met. Overall I was able to get the gifs done and uploaded on time, delivering high-quality pieces, that will live on the internet forever. Thus allowing the organization to share them as well as fans.
