Curling For A Cure

More about the project...

This project is an entire brand design for a not-for-profit event. Moreover, Curling For A Cure is a not-for-profit that raises money to help the fight against cancer. Furthermore, the event was started by my cousin, Chad Yanchycki. It was created back in 2018 after my Gigi (Grandfather) had passed away from his 3rd battle with cancer.

My role in this event is lead creative. With this in mind, I have been given the opportunity to develop the brand identity. This came after the first annual Curling For A Cure curling bonspiel. Also, with the mild success from the first year, the event is showing great potential. So, the event success could increase drastically with proper branding, and that’s why I am on the team. It should be noted after branding, we doubled profits the second year with $13,300.00 and almost 1.5x profits in the third year with $18,145.75.

Personal goals for the project...

Taking on this project was a big opportunity. In general, taking on this project means I am solely responsible for the entire creative process of the event. I have to learn how to multitask, organize and be able to fully execute a brand on my own.

Multitasking. Overall multitasking is a tough task psychologically. Thus with my responsibility of taking on the entire creative approach, I have to take on multiple tasks at once to be able to meet the deadline. In most cases, it is almost impossible for humans to do two things at once. With this in mind, I have to be able to bounce between multiple tasks and projects with great efficiency. As a result, this allows me to complete all the banners, coupons, thank you cards, brochures, flyers, donation lists, and last but not least the brand design. Importantly this is including the logo, colours, fonts, and general brand guidelines.

Organization. So, with the challenge of multitasking at hand I need to learn organization as well. In fact, the two work hand in hand. While learning to develop my multitasking skills I am learning organizational skills. In this case, I work on a Mac and one of the great features of the Mac is colour coordinating files. So, I am using this while organizing different tasks and building multiple folders to organize specific files. Additionally, another way I am able to develop my organization is through using Trello to organize tasks and projects. Especially during the 2019 planning for the 2020 event.

At the end of the day, my goals were met. Therefore I was able to successfully design the brand and have it ready for the 2nd annual bonspiel. In fact, designing and having it in effect allowed profits to double that year to $13,300.00 and it is showing continuous growth the following year with $18,145.75.
