Canucks Unique Content

More about the project...

This includes some unique projects that I have worked on for Canucks Sports & Entertainment that helped develop my skillset. A couple of pieces were aired on TV. With that being said, Sportsnet will air CSE content that piques their interest. During airing, one of the 2019-2020 season games, two of the projects went live. In addition to this, you will see a list of them on this page. Firstly, a prospect profile; Sharing stories and information about a Canucks prospect. Secondly, the next project was the Q&A with Tyler Toffoli.

I am not responsible for any of the great project footage, that is not my expertise. My responsibility is for all of the video motion graphics on display. Especially with the prospect video & Chel Challenge. There is a lot of moving parts and many changes; Due to different stories and facts.

Personal goals for the project...

Taking on this project was a big opportunity. It is hard to know if your content is going to make it on National Television. Apart from this, what I do know is that it is going to show up on social media. Well, it already did. Overall I have two goals in mind. Firstly, with the prospect profiles, I want to increase my efficiency in creating templates. So, there is more than one prospect, I have to create templates. Secondly, the next goal is to learn more control on my transitions and animations. For this reason, the Toffoli video is a perfect project to practice such a challenge.

Template Efficiency. To increase my efficiency at building templates I am actively learning; compositions, nulls, attaching assets as child elements and expressions. Thus taking advantage of the opportunity with the prospect profile and Game At A Glance videos. Without a doubt this allowed me to plug in new content down the road. Therefore, the editing time would be cut in half leading to a more productive workflow and better project.

Transitions & Animations. I constantly see videos online of these smooth in and out transitions. In short, I needed to know how it is done. So, I am always learning and adapting my skills in the motion graph editor. This is where I can edit the animation speed and value to my liking. Due to it being such a powerful tool, I can create the smooth animations and transitions that I need. Therefore building an engaging experience for the consumer.

Glitch Effect. Using the glitch effect is common in online content. Moreover, I use it every so often in other content pieces. Also, with the Chel Challenge aiming at the youth and gaming market, it is a perfect opportunity. With this in mind, I am further evolving my knowledge around the effect. For example, this can be done by using multiple techniques to develop the effect. Such as using After Effects expressions, adjusting built-in effects, and manipulating keyframes.

At the end of the day, my goals were met. I was able to increase my efficiency in building the templates, allowing me to deliver the projects on time. Also, I was very successful in building the lower thirds for the Toffoli project. The transitions between questions is smooth and eye-catching. With these successes on social media, the Prospect Profile and Toffoli Q&A projects was live on Sportsnet.
